The Goat Island Boat Club is based on Lake Marion in South Carolina. Lake Marion is one of two lakes in the Santee Cooper system. The other lake is Lake Moultrie and is connected to Lake Marion via a canal. It is possible to navigate through both lakes and then via a lock and river to Charleston, SC. The club is primarily a social organization. It sponsors several outings per year for members. These range from simple one day trips and picnics to several day events to Charleston and beyond. The club also raises funds to assist local organizations like the State Department of Natural Resources and conducts events to clean-up the lake area.
